HPS:    I now ask that spirit come and join us.
SPIRIT:    I am spirit and I am here to guide you on your way to  greater understanding. I am a constant in everyone’s life, I neither ebb or gain strength.  I am there when you call on me and when you don't.  I know where you are going and where you need to be. You can always count on me to be there.

HPS:    I now ask that Air join us.
AIR:    I am air, with my breath I make everything new. I am inspiration and fertility. My time is in the spring. My time has passed but is yet to come again.

HPS:    I now ask that Fire join us.
FIRE:    I am fire I bring the light of knowledge and the warmth of friendship. Along with the God I am at my strongest at this time of year. Everything grows and starts to ripen with my warmth. My time is now, it is a time of plenty.

HPS:    I now ask that Water join us.

HPS:    I now ask that Earth join us.
EARTH:    I am Earth, I am the foundation and I provide comfort to all that is physical. My time is in the winter. My time has passed but is yet to come again.

 Casting the Circle

HPS:    I create this circle of protection where knowledge flows freely, and time doesn't exist. We are now between the worlds. So mote it be

HP:    Goddess I call you to our ritual tonight to share in the joy and love of the people here. To help us except the knowledge that we are to be given here tonight. So mote it be.

HPS:    God consort to the Goddess, I call you to join us in our ritual. To share in the joy and love of the people here and to protect us from any malefic outside forces. So mote it be.

HPS:    We are here tonight to celebrate Summer Solstice. This is the time when our God is at his most powerful. Feel the loving warmth that the God shines upon us.

HP:    It is a time when the Goddess is well into her pregnancy. Like the unborn child within the Goddess the plants in the fields are nurturing there developing offspring. It is a time of growth and learning. It is a time of plenty.

Spiral Dance

HP:    At this time to raise energy we will do the Spiral Dance. Those who need to go slower please get as close to our High Priestess and those that can go fast please get close to me.

Workings
(Explain and help make Gods eyes)

HP:    Repeat after me. "I empower this Gods eye to protect me and my household. So mote it be.

HPS:    Because we need balance in all things tonight we will do something different to honor the Goddess.

HP:    At this time of year Goddess is so pregnant she has started Lactating, so in the Great Right to honor her instead of having wine we are going to have milk. For those who are lactose intolerant we also have juice.

Midsummer Drum 2003 CO1

Midsummer, GreenSong Grove
Drum & Dance Circle
June, 14th 2003

Anointing
(Drummers and Dancers will form a gauntlet. Participants will walk through a Drum/Dance smudge. HPS and HP will do anointing and greeting)

Statement of Intent
(While HPS speaks, HP lights all the candles on the Altar)

Welcome, tonight we gather to pay Tribute to the Drum and the Dance. It’s said that Drums are the oldest instrument known to man. Unfortunately, it’s one of those things we’ll never be able to prove because Drums are normally made from bio-degradable materials – hides, woods, gourds, etc. Throughout history, Drums have been used for many purposes – War, Celebration, Trance, Awakenings, Communication, and many other reasons. Even today, Drums are currently being used in healing research…there are cancer studies going on in which the participants are showing remarkable improvements simply by enjoying the environment created by a Drumming Circle. Who would have thought?? And of course, it’s difficult for even the most rhythmically challenged of us to sit and listen to a great Drumming session without at least wiggling in our seats a little bit. So probably as long as there have been Drums to sound, there has been Dance to celebrate…and tonight we enjoy them both. Tonight, we may do things a little unusual…but we invite you all to participate. We have a Primary Drummer and Dancer…please take your cues from them. We’ll begin by calling the Quarters and Casting the Circle. Join us, listen, play and if the spirit moves you then Dance. You won’t be interrupting us, because that’s why we’re here tonight… to pay Tribute to the Drum and the Dance.

Call Quarters
(Called by the Drummers and the Dancers; North, South – Drum, East, West – Dance)
(Quarters will be called in by primary Drummer and primary Dancer)
Call, response, and welcome)

(When all Quarters are called, HPS will signal Dancers
to place cloths over the drums)

Cast Circle
(Drums play muffled heartbeat)
(While song is playing HP and HPS walk the Circle Clockwise three times, spiraling in)
(Drummers and Dancers will invite others to join in as the Circle is cast)
(Drummers will watch HP for the signal to stop drumming. Once the signal is made all Drummers and Dancers will move to the Center)

Invocation
(HPS/HP will move to the center of the Circle, flanked by drummers on the right, Dancers on the left as they chant in the God and Goddess)

Dancers:     Ruler of the Drum; Child, Hunter, Sage.
Drummers: Ruler of the Dance; Maiden, Mother, Crone.
HPS:           You measure out the beats of our lives.
HP:             You measure out the steps on our path.
Together:   Together our Sacred Harmony brings Balance and Blessings.

Perform the Work

Throughout time, Drummers have been our connection with the heartbeat of the Earth. Dancers are the way of being grateful for the physical form that the spirit enjoys. Drumming and Dancing have always been sacred because of what they give to us. Since tonight is a Sabbat Celebration we will not be doing any workings… instead, please join us as we rejoice and enjoy ourselves as we pay tribute to the Drum and the Dance!!

(Signal the Drummers to remove the cloths and begin the Celebration).
(Drummers will watch HP for the signal to stop playing, allowing all
participants time to ground and return to their chairs)

Cakes and Ale

Thank you!! We’ll now do the Cakes and Ale and release our Quarters and the Circle.

(HP/HPS will stand before the Altar with Plates and Chalice raised.
Drummers will begin a slow steady beat as Dancers take the Cakes and Ale to be blessed. When all Cakes and Ale have been blessed, the Drummers are offered first, followed by HP/HPS and all the participants. Dancers are last)
(When Cakes and Ale are done, Drummers will continue playing until all
Quarters are released by HP/HPS.)

Release Quarters
(HP and HPS will begin in the North, HPS will silence the Drummers and HP will still the Dancers. Primary Drummer and primary Dancer will remain in Center until HP/HPS return to the Center, hug each other to release the God/Goddess and turn to the Primary’s to quiet them)

This Circle has been opened, will remain unbroken, Merry Meet, Merry Part and Merry Meet again!!

After the time of Setting Sun, we ask all Dragons to join our fun.

Unite energies

Everyone stand and hold hands.  Picture a globe of white light.....

Cast Circle

Now push that band of energy.....
Use this energy to fortify the Triple Circle that exists permanently around this house.  The first is a Circle of Protection, I ask our Lord to cast a protective eye upon all who dwell within these walls.  The second is a Circle of Hope, and I know that all who pass through these doors will find hope in themselves and in their futures.  The third is a Circle of Love, I ask our Lady to shine the light of her love on all who stand beneath this roof.  As above, so it is below.  As without so it is within. So mote it be.

Call Quarters

I call upon the Dragons of the North, Keepers of the Ancient Wisdom.  Old ones, join us tonight.  Share your secrets.

I call upon the Dragons of the East.  Come to us on wings of wonder.  Free our imaginations to soar with you.

I call upon the Dragons of the South.  Protectors of the Flames of Knowledge.  Join our circle tonight, Teach us.

I call upon the Dragons of the West.  Serpents that swim beneath the waves.  Wash away our preconceived notions and open our minds to all the possibilities.

Anoint
