Greeting

Today is a very special day for all of us. It is a day in which we celebrate the birth of little (name). We gather together as a Circle of family and friends to welcome one of our own back into the community.  It is with great rejoicing that we greet one who has returned.  As all children are, (name) is our future and represents to us the light of the world. Mom & Fairy God-Mother have honored all of you today by inviting you to not only witness this beautiful welcoming ceremony, but most importantly, to participate in the blessing of this child. The seed of perfection is planted in every child and awaits only recognition to give complete expression of good in this life.

Invocation

Mother Earth, Father Sky, Divine Parent, we ask for Your Blessing here today.  Protect our family and community and surround us with Your infinite unconditional love. Keep us mindful that the miracle of incarnation is both a gift and path back to you. We ask that our sense of community be strengthened by what we are about to witness here today.
 
Our lives are the legacies of those who have gone before us. The ancestors of this child are no less a part of her community than we here who are present. She/he is the fulfillment of the dreams of many generations. Therefore, we welcome all of (name)’s ancestors to be with us now to participate in this protection, blessing and welcoming ceremony of little (name).

Naming

Today, we welcome this precious new life as an individual.  Today, we formally “give” the child her name, a symbol of her uniqueness.  Names are powerful symbols in human cultures.  Bestowing the name is a moment of welcoming a differentiated life, with its own power, into the Circle of the tribe of humanity.

How shall this child be called and how did you choose this name?

(name), your name was chosen with great care, and it was chosen just for you.  We all hope that you grow into a caring person who is healthy and happy, and with wisdom to help you through life.  On behalf of all who will know her, with the hope that she/he finds among us all the nourishment and encouragement she/he needs, We welcome (name) back into our community.

Welcoming

This afternoon is an opportunity to re-affirm our trust in the inherent capabilities already present in (name) to fulfill her destiny.  We have the faith that she/he possesses the potential to become whatever she/he desires to be.  This occasion is also an opportunity to express our joy, as we realize that (name) will always be in an all-embracing Circle of infinite love. 

Blessing of the Child

You are connected, protected, loved, and blessed by the Divine.
Blessed be your all your senses; may they be protected, and awakened.
Blessed be your smile; may it be the light that you shine on those you meet in this lifetime
Blessed be your heart; may you feel compassion for yourself and others.
Blessed be your hands; so that you may reach out to the world around you
Blessed be your feet; so that you may connect with the earth, be grounded, and stand your ground in this world.

Know that your spirit is strong and it will guide you through this life.
Know that you have angels to watch over you and that you are never alone.
Know that you are deeply loved and that your presence brings overwhelming joy.

Parents

To be a parent forces you to recognize that you are no longer a child.  Claiming adulthood, we look at our children and see ourselves.  We feel the temptation to help them succeed where we have failed.  But as much as we seek to make them like us, we cannot.  What we can do is see that they do their best.  And as they grow, they will in turn be pushing us to grow with them. This we can do, if we love them, not for who they may become, but for who they are - unique and special.
 
The interactions between (name)’s closest family and friends will form the web of the relationship that serves as the child's nest.  Children learn about men and women, communication, caring, respect, feelings, conflict, and love by watching those people closest to them.
 
One of the best pieces of advice to parents I’ve ever heard comes from
Mahatma Gandhi.  It is this: “Your life is your message to your children.”
 
How you live it, what you value more, and what less, this is where your child will learn the most indelible lessons.  May Spirit bless you in your commitment to (name). 
 

Fairy God-Mother

 
Your responsibility is to (name), and no one else.  In choosing you, Mom/Dad has honored you with a great trust.  They has entrusted you to hold the vision of (name)’s true nature as a perfect child of Spirit, to hold it close to your heart, and let that vision be your guide.  If there are times you feel called upon to speak up, on behalf of the highest and best good of (name), Mom/Dad is trusting that you will speak up. She/he is trusting that, if necessary, you will be there to help (name) learn to love, trust and respect herself.  Should the need arise; it will be up to you to stand in place as friend and counselor.  Listening when she/he needs to talk, advising when she/he asks, and always loving her/him unconditionally.  It is an honored place you hold in this child’s life.  Do you wholeheartedly accept this honor?
 
Be wise and sensitive enough to help her/him become good, honest, caring, giving and loving individual.
 

Community

 
This community gathered here will be especially important to this child.  We are her/his people.  As she/he comes of age, we will appear to her/him as part of her/his world.  She/he will look among us for companionship and leadership and to all of us for support.  By watching us, she/he will learn how life works.  She/he will know the way human society works by how we create our relationships here. 
 
In this special Circle, we are bound together by love and respect.  Each and every one of us matters.  When we leave here today, we will remain a part of this special Circle.  In everyday behavior, it is more difficult to experience this specialness, so let this ceremony be a time when we commit to being more caring toward one another.  As this child we name today is a newcomer, we all have at one time been newcomers.  Like all of us, she/he needs us to open our Circle and support to her/him.
 
We rejoice with you in the birth of this beautiful child.  We’re here to support you, and understand that (name) birth is a rite of passage for this family.  We lovingly support your understanding that (name) is an individualized expression of the life force; born to walk her/his own path, live her/his own journey.
 

The Promise

 
She/he's a bundle of sweetness, brightness & fun.  The beauty of springtime, the warmth of the sun.
They're Innocence covered with mud, sand, & soot. They're Parenthood dragging a doll by the foot.
They're a composite picture of giggles & tears; of tantrums, excitement, amusement & fears. A bundle of mischief, and often a tease; a creature of moods not easy to please.
Who'll capture your heart with their pixie-like grin; or chatter and beg till your patience wears thin.
But obedient, naughty, mischievous or coy; They’re Mom's little Darling & My Pride & Joy.
 
Please light the first candle:    Little (name), you are the warmth of this candle. You are accepted in love and you are love itself. 
 
Please light the second candle:    (name) let this light awaken you to truth, and help you to remember the Divine light you are.
 
Please light the third candle:    Let the light of these candles help you see through illusion. You are this light. Therefore, let your light shine though the darkness.
