Tonight we gather to turn the page. Soon the year will be over, and a new year will begin. Don’t focus on leaving things behind, but rather on accepting change and moving forward. Every story has a beginning and an ending; and we are all merely turning the page to begin a new chapter.

Welcome to all who come to keep the Old Ways. Tonight we’re here to celebrate the Season, to look back on all the wonderful moments we’ve enjoyed this past year. May the light of the Sun find its way into our hearts.

History

Ancient people saw the flow of time as circular, not linear, and the Changing Seasons were understood as a Great Wheel, or Wheel of the Year. The beautiful wreaths that decorate our doors and windows are a symbol of the New Year and its turning. The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. The wheel of the year has turned once more and the nights have grown longer and colder. Now the darkness begins to retreat and light begins its return once again. As the wheel continues to turn, the Sun returns to us once more. In ancient times the return of the light was never taken for granted. And people never forgot how their very lives depended on its return. Homes were decorated with evergreens and candles so that the new light would find welcome and beauty in the New Year. 

Cast Circle (HPS)

Three times round this Circle’s bound. From the North and the East to the South and the West then back to the North again.  

The first is a Circle of Protection, as we ask our Father Nature to cast a protective eye upon all who dwell within these walls.

The second is a Circle of Hope, as we understand that all who pass through these doors will find hope in themselves and in their futures.

The third is a Circle of Love, as we know that our Mother Earth shines the light of Her love upon all who gather here beneath this roof.

Three times round this Circle’s bound.  North, South, East and West from edge to edge this Circle is cast. So Mote It Be.

 

Invocation

(HPS) I am The Crone, the Old One who rules the time of Winter. Do you know my names? Hecate, Cerridwen, Spider Grandmother. I am midwife of life and death, the Changer, she who stands at the crossroads. I am the storyteller. This night I have brought the guardians of each direction to tell the story of the Sun God, a story of Life, Death, and Rebirth!

Call The Quarters

NORTH: I am the North, the place of midnight, ruled by the Element of Earth.  I am the place of the ancestors and ancient wisdom, of all that has walked the Wheel through millennia and knows the way.  I rule the time of Winter. 

(HPS) The time of Darkness is now upon us; a time of cold and scarcity when the northern-most Earth leans farthest from the Sun.  The Sun gives brief light and little warmth.  The life that was lies shattered and still, retreated like refugees in the migration of herds, the flight of the flocks.  The trees stand stripped and naked in their poverty, imprisoned in ice, bowed and broken by storms.  In suffering and hardship you learn what is essential. Your wealth is taken, your weakness exposed, your dreams perish. Even the God, too, dies!  So Mote it Be.

Remember that you are EARTH – Ground, Give, Build, and Heal

EAST: I am the East the place of the dawn, ruled by the element of Air. I am the breath of life, of speech and song. I watch over all the winged ones. I am the season of Spring, the season of birth and new creation surging forth.

(HPS) Can you remember the Spring? Life surges forth in buds and sprouts. The trees dress their branches in new leaves as the sap rises to rouse them from sleep. The birds return from the realms of the South to raise their children. New life comes forth and multiplies. The Earth warms and leans towards the Sun as she greens and blossoms. Each day the young Sun rises in the East and each day grows stronger. Each day the time of light lasts longer. Did you think it would last forever? The Wheel turns!  Hail and Blessed Be.

Remember that you are AIR – Observe, Breath, Focus, and Decide

SOUTH: I am the South, the place of mid-day, ruled by the element of Fire. I am the passion and laughter of life; keeper of Earth's fertility, Guardian of all that walks and crawls on the Earth.  I hold the gift of fertile Earth from whence your crops come forth.  I am the blessing of children, the keeper of truth and innocence.  I am the season of Summer.

 

(HPS) Can you remember the Summer? The fruit sets upon the vines and the branches of the trees. The herds fatten on the thick grass of the upper pastures. Young animals scamper and play under the watchful eyes of the older animals. The young birds learn to fly. Your own children take shade under the glorious leaf canopy of the trees. The Earth leans nearest the Sun, radiant in her beauty. The Sun, strong and hot, is at the peak of His power. And the light exceeds the darkness. Did you think it would last forever? The Wheel turns!  Hail and Blessed Be.

Remember that you are FIRE – Burn, Tame, Adapt, and Ignite

WEST: I am the West, place of dusk, ruled by the Element of Water. I am the guardian of life's water, from the oceans' depths to the waters of the womb that rocked you before your birth. I am the sweet rain satisfying the thirsty Earth, and keeper of all that swims and lives in water. I am the place of all that lies below the surface, of intuition and dreams. I am the season of Fall and I rule the time of Harvest. 

(HPS) Can you remember the time of Fall? Do you remember the backbreaking labor of harvesting the grains and fruits and vegetables; the vines and trees heavy with their bounty?  Now the young animals take their places beside the elders and begin the great migrations to the realms of the South and the pastures of the lowlands. The trees transform from deep green into glorious gold, orange, and red, their true colors shine forth before they drop their finery, leaf by leaf, to the ground. Your own children must be dressed against the evening chill and you labor to make ready for the coming darkness. The Earth stands apart from the Sun who grows cooler, and the light begins to die. Did you think it would last forever? The Wheel turns!  Hail and Blessed Be.

Silence...cold...stillness...deep...dormant...rest...waiting

Winter has always been a time to gather with family or friends, of returning to the hearth and home. It’s also a time of turning inward; a time of quiet reflection while the earth around us sleeps. This is when we reflect on the year past, when we stop to gather strength and make plans for the year ahead.

(HPS) Stillness and thought of death come more readily to us in winter and remind us that each season is part of an ongoing cycle of birth, growth, fruition, and death.  The annuals that die in winter provide the mulch and compost for the spring seedlings. The cold of winter provides the dormancy for seeds and bulbs so that they may burst forth in spring. The harshness of winter prepares us for the burst of creativity, freedom, and light of spring and summer. The crisp, clear, cold, nights reveal a sky filled with the stars of the galaxies that connect us with our origins and the origins of all that is.  The bare branches of trees, stripped to the essentials, remind us to reflect on what is essential in our lives. 

Winter brings the still time for us to consider what is meaningful and what is not. To ask ourselves what choices have I made, what have I done to bring light into someone else’s life? What inheritance have I received from life, what legacy will I leave? To take the time in winter's quiet to ponder these deeper, inner questions pays honor to this season and to the eternal rhythms of the Earth.  The people in darkness have seen a great light and though this light is yet small, it grows stronger as it grows in each of us. As the wheel turns, the light returns.

(HPS) The Winter Solstice promises new dreams, new hopes and new light. Our lives are not measured by the things we possess…or the power we wield...but by the light we leave in someone else’s life.  The simple things that we do…like a welcoming smile, the selfless things…like lending a hand to someone else in need…the sacrificing things…like babysitting when what you really want is quiet.  These are all examples of the light we can shine in our own lives.  As we light our candles in recognition of the light returning to the New Year…we invite others to talk about what they would like to do in the coming year to bring a little of our own light to others.

The windmills will be empowered by being "blown upon" with the energy we raise. Once cleansed they will be ready to absorb any negativity that we may come in contact with: "as it is now & as it may be in the future."  In this way they will protect us from negativity & allow us to heal at will. As we breath in we are going to bring in energy from the winds of all four quarters as we breath out we will expel all the worries that hold us back from all we need to be. Fill it with the power for our purpose, the power to cleanse ourselves. Prepare the windmills for the task we have described.

We call upon the masculine and feminine waters, drawn from a forest mountain stream.  We use it to bless, cleanse and anoint us for this Circle. As the water from the pool represents the female and the water from the falls represents the male, the two joined together represent the God and Goddess flowing as one. So Mote it Be.

EAST:  We remember fondly the springtime of our youngest years; a brief moment of new beginnings and constantly unfolding mysteries. Statement of Intent

Tonight we celebrate Samhain.  For many in the Pagan Community this is considered the end of the year and the beginning of a new one.  It’s a time when the veil between the worlds is thin and communication with those who have crossed over is easiest. It’s also a time when we celebrate those who have had a positive impact on our lives. Tonight we’ll reminisce about those who have passed on, we’ll honor our ancestors long gone from this life, and we’ll remember those still here who continue to bless our lives every day.

It's the blood of the Ancients that runs through our veins. As these forms pass, the circle of life remains

(HPS) Mother, Father, brother, sister, friend, we meet to acknowledge those who have touched our lives in many positive ways and we’re better people for having known them. Though some are gone from this earthly realm they will live on forever in the wild flowers growing in the meadows, on the whispers of the wind, in the warmth of the sun on our faces, in the gentle spring rains and magnificent thunderstorms.  As long as their memories are alive in our hearts and in our minds, they will be with us always as they walk hand in hand with the Ancient Ones.

Merry Meet and Blessed Be.  Tonight, we will be enlisting the help of the Ancient Ones from some of our own faiths to come together working in harmony.  October is known to be one time of the year when the veil between the worlds is thinnest.  It’s a time when messages are often sent to departed loved ones, but it can also be a time when messages are received.  Tonight we’ll be working on our own psychic connections and receiving messages from beyond.

Three times round, this Circle’s bound, cast of love and protection to keep all inside safe from harm and free of all negativity.  Make this a place of safety so that the power of the Moon in all Her beauty and glory can be here to lend Her Magick.  This Circle is drawn from the elemental energies to surround this sacred space.  From earth the things that manifest.  From air, the things imagined.  From fire the things that motivate.  From water the things empowered.  In a space that has no place, in a moment that has no time.  Welcome Ancient Ones and see this place as sealed - So mote it be.

Unite energies - Charge of Goddess

In the mists of time I was called Aset, Urd, Verdandi, Skuld, Urania, White Buffalo Woman, Sara Kali, and by many other names.  I am the quickening of the seed in Springtime, the glory of ripe fields in Summer, and the peace of the quiet woods as the snow calms the Earth in Winter.  I am the lilt of the maidens' melody in the morning, the patient hand of the Mother and the deep river of the mysteries taught by moonlight.  I give you, my children, the gifts of song rising from the heart, the joy of autumn sunset, the cool touch of the renewing waters, and the compelling call of the drum in the dance.  To you I give the joy of creation and the companion of beauty to light your days.  

 

By the powers of the steadfast Earth and the wheeling stars I charge thee; by the darkness of death and the white light of birth I charge thee; and by the terrible strength of your human spirits, I charge thee:  Strive always for the growth of your eternal soul, never intentionally diminish your strength, your compassion, your ties to the earth or your knowledge. Challenge your mind, never accept complacently that which has been the standard merely for the reason that it is the standard by which the majority judges.  Act always for the betterment of your brothers and sisters.  To strengthen them is to forge the true chain of humanity, and a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.  

 

You are my children, my brothers and sisters and my companions.  You are known in great part by the company you keep, and you are strong and wise and full of the powers of life.  It is yours to use them in my service, and I also, am known by the company I keep.  Go forth in joy and the light of my love, turning to me without fear when the darkness threatens to overcome you, and turning also to me to share your triumphs and your achievements, and know in your heart of hearts that we are together in blood and spirit ‘til the last star darkens in the sky and winter comes to the universe.

TAPPING

Thought Field Therapy began in 1980, with a psychologist by the name of Roger Callahan, and an accidental discovery while working with one of his patients. His colleague Gary Craig began to observe some problems with TFT, aspects that he saw were unnecessary complications. So in the 1990’s Craig developed Emotional Field Technique or EFT as a simplified, improved version of the concepts behind Callahan’s TFT.  EFT soon became known as Tapping and now has one basic, simple sequence of points to tap, no matter what the situation.

Identify the problem you want to focus on and compose your set up statement.

Gently tap with your fingertips, not your fingernails. Use whichever hand is most comfortable, left or right, or alternate. The tapping order begins with the hands and moves to the top and works down. Relax, sit comfortably, take a slow relaxing breath and begin. Tap 3-6 times each on all points from the top down.

Blue Moon, Dragon Circle 2018

Tonight we’ll be doing a Dragon Circle.  Dragons, and the easily visible Dragon Flies, have always been my Energy Spirits.  So tonight I’ve brought some of my buddies with me, and others from the surrounding area will probably join us. They come in all sizes, some no bigger than a Dragon Fly, others the size of a house.  If the big guy from the North shows up, don’t worry about him…he’s truly bigger than he seems and just a nice grounding teddy bear.  So don’t be surprised if you feel a slight breeze, or a warm touch.  Just say hello and let us know.

Dragons of the North, South, East & West – hear my call, attend to me!  Those who live on this property and dwell in this space – gather round, we have work to do.  Tomorrow will be time to play.  Set the wards, awaken the guards – I charge you with the protection of those who fill this room.  Let no harm come to them. 

Circle round; reflect back without malice anything that comes will ill intent.  Allow entry only to those who come for our own greater good.  Allow only those energies that arrive in peace and good will. So Mote it Be.

Blue Moon 2018 CO1

Blue Moon 2018

The Blue Moon, the second of two full moons in one calendar month, is an especially Magickal time, think of it as a lunar bonus round, a chance to ask for special “once in a blue moon” favors, or to work with “once in a lifetime” spells.

A square of blue cloth or sturdy blue Christmas wrapping paper. Ideally, the cloth or paper will have moons and stars printed on it, alternatively you can decorate it yourself with glitter glue, stickers, etc.

Bottle of Champagne, a glass, and a corkscrew

Get centered, and sit down with your pen and paper and make a list of all the things you would want but which seem impossible. This includes anything that you find yourself repeatedly asking for. Think of “once in a lifetime,” or “once in a blue moon,” or “that couldn’t possibly happen to me,” things. The longer the list is, the better.

Now, look at each thing on your list and really think about it. Is this something you really want? If it showed up at your front door tomorrow morning would you really accept it? Are you sure this is for you? Cross off any items that you can’t say YES to with enthusiasm.

Pick your top thirteen “geez I wish I could have that” items from your list. Cut your paper into thirteen moon shapes and write one wish on each one. Write it in a positive, affirmative way, such as: “I win millions of dollars in the lottery.” or “I get an all expenses paid month long vacation in Fiji with the person I love.”

Open up the square of cloth or paper, and pin the 13 wishes to it with safety pins. (The safety pins insure safety and security for you as your wishes unfold.). Now fold the cloth into a neat little bundle and tie it with the gold ribbon or cord.

Take the champagne, the glass, corkscrew, and your bundle outside under the full moon. Hold the bundle up and say the following:  Please grant me these wishes, with harm to none, and bring me a life filled with love and with fun.  I give you permission on this special night to unbind whatever I may have closed tight; to slip past the blocks, to move through whatever might, stop you from granting these wishes tonight.

With malice towards no-one, and harm to none. By the grace of the Goddess, by the grace of the God, as I will it, so it shall be done.  So mote it be.

Now, uncork the champagne, and pour it into the glass. Hold up the glass of champagne and make a toast (say a heartfelt blessing) to the moon, and pour a small amount on the ground. Then make a toast to the Goddess and the God (a blessing and a thank-you), and pour a small amount on the ground. Then toast to yourself (something loving and kind), and drink the rest of the champagne in the glass.

Put the bundle in a place where things get worked on regularly, such as desk drawer, office cabinet, or tool box. On New Year’s Eve of the following year, make a list of all the wonderful and amazing things that happened since this spell, then toss the bundle (unopened) into a fire with thanks and gratitude.
