Handfasting 2003
Perfect Love and Perfect Trust

HPS:    We have come together here in celebration of the joining together of ... and ... . Marriage is a bond to be entered into only after considerable thought and reflection. It is at once the most fragile of relationships and the strongest. Fragile because it requires exactly the right mix of freedom and interdependence, of caring and of sharing, of being together and of being alone. As with any aspect of life it has its cycles, its ups and downs, its trials and triumphs. With full understanding of this, ... and ... have come here today to be joined as one in marriage. Remember that this wedding is only a symbol, a celebration, and a public recognition of what already exists in the silent places in your hearts. It is your marriage and not something created by the state or the church - it is yours to define, yours to make real, yours to live. Nothing I can say can make it anything more than what already exists in your hearts. Others would ask at this time who gives the bride in marriage, but, as a woman is not property to be bought and sold, given and taken, I ask simply if she comes of her own will and if she has her family’s blessing.

... is it true that you come of your own free will and accord and your family has given their blessing?

RESPONSE:    Yes, it is true.

HPS:    Please join hands with your betrothed and listen to that which I am about to say.  Above you are the stars, below you are the stones, as time passes, Remember...

Like a stone should your love be firm, like a star should your love be constant. Let the powers of the mind and of the intellect guide you in your marriage. Let the strength of your wills bind you together. Let the power of love and desire make you happy, and the strength of your dedication make you inseparable. Be close, but not too close. Possess one another, yet be understanding. Have patience with one another, for storms will come, but they will pass quickly. Be free in giving affection and warmth. Have no fear and let not the ways of the unenlightened give you unease, for the light is with you always. As the sun’s warmth and the earth’s magic bring forth life, so shall you two create something new by the blending of your energies.

Blessing & Exchange of Rings

HPS:    These rings represent a journey without beginning or end, they are a symbol of the circle of life. In the presence of the Lord and Lady, we ask that they bless these rings so that your journey of love never ends.

The Hand Fasting

HP:    The threads of this cord intertwine to form one. Up until this moment you have been separate in thought, word, and action. As these threads have been bound together so too are your lives intertwined.

(Bride and groom hold hands while the HP and HPS tie their wrists)

HP & HPS:    As the right hand is to the left hand, may you be forever one, sharing in all things, at home and abroad, in love and in loyalty, for all time to come.

HPS:    (To Groom) Repeat after me:  I, ..., in the name of the Light that resides within us all, by the life that courses within my blood and the love that resides within my heart. Take You ... to my hand, my heart, and my spirit, to be my chosen one. I promise to love you wholly and completely without restraint in sickness and in health, in plenty and in poverty, in life and beyond. Where we shall meet, remember, and love again. I shall respect you, your beliefs, your family, and your ways, as I respect myself.

HP:    (To Bride) Repeat after me: I, ..., in the name of the light that resides within us all, by the life that courses within my blood and the love that resides within my heart.

Groom & Bride:    Heart to thee, body to thee, soul mates forever, so mote it be.

(Hands remain tied while cakes and ale are prepared at the altar. Cakes and Ale will be given to HP and HPS and Bride and Groom Only)

HP & HPS:    (untie hands and give cord to bride) May you be forever one.

HPS:    By the power vested in my by the Lord and Lady I now pronounce you husband and wife. Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be warmth to the other. May your love so endure that its flame remains a guiding light unto you. I bid you to exchange a Kiss.

(Broom is placed on the ground where Bride & Groom will exit by jumping it. Everyone else will be invited to jump the broom on their way out to renew their own vows and to wish the bride and groom many years of love and happiness.)

Wheel of the Year 1996 CO1

The Wheel of the Year 1996

Imbolc February 3, 2023
Spring Equinox, Ostara March 20, 2023
Beltane May 5, 2023
Summer Solstice, Litha June 21, 2023
Lammas August 7, 2023
Fall Equinox, Mabon September 23, 2023
Samhain November 7, 2023
Winter Solstice, Yule December 21, 2023

The Wheel of the Year represents the 8 festivals knows as Sabbats. They follow a nature-based calendar and include four Solar festivals with four Seasonal festivals set in between. Because Solstices and Equinoxes are tied to exact astronomical moments, the holidays shift slightly from year-to-year. There is a celebration about every six weeks.

Imbolc: February 1-2
Ostara: March 19-23
Beltane: April 30 – May 1
Litha/Midsummer: June 19-23
Lughnasadh: August 1-2
Mabon: September 20-24
Samhain: October 31 – November 1
Yule: December 19-23

Imbolc
Imbolc, or Candlemas, falls on the first of February and traditionally marks the first stirrings of spring. It aligns with the contemporary observance of Groundhog Day. It is time for purification and spring cleaning in anticipation of the year's new life.

Ostara
Ostara, or Spring Equinox, is the second of the three spring celebrations during which light and darkness are again in balance, with light on the rise. It is a time of new beginnings and of life emerging from the grips of winter.

Beltane
Beltane, or May Eve, is traditionally the first day of summer commonly referred to as May Day. It is well known for Maypole dancing and the crowning of the Queen of the May. This festival recognizes the power of life in its fullness, and the greening of the world.

Litha
Litha, also known as Midsummer or Summer Solstice, is one of the four Solar Holidays and is considered the turning point at which summer reaches its height and the sun shines longest.

Lammas/Lughnasadh
Lammas or Lughnasadh is the first of the three Harvest Festivals. The holiday is a celebration and thanksgiving for grains and bread symbolizing the first fruits of the harvests.

Mabon
Mabon is the second of the three Harvest Festivals.  The holiday of the Autumn Equinox, also known as Harvest Home, is a thanksgiving for the fruits of the earth and a recognition of the need to share them with the blessings of the God and Goddess during the coming winter months.

Samhain
Samhain is one of the four Greater Sabbats and is typically considered as a time to celebrate the lives of those who have passed on, It often involves paying respect to ancestors, family members, elders of the faith, friends, pets, and other loved ones who have died.

Yule
Yule, or Winter solstice has been recognized as a significant turning point in the yearly cycle since the late Stone Age. The ancient megalithic sites of Newgrange and Stonehenge, carefully aligned with the solstice sunrise and sunset, exemplify this.

Graduation Esbat, CO1, 2007

Purify The Area

Smudging And Anointing

Cast Circle

I cast this circle with radiant light, a space of protection, love and creativity for all this night. The circle is cast.

Call Quarters

NORTH:   Energies of the North, we ask for your strength, and nurturing abundance in our spiritual quest. I call upon the forces of the earth to sharpen our minds for the work ahead and to breathe protection, grounding and sense into our hearts.  Be with us here forces of the earth.  Enter and be blessed!

EAST:        Energies of the East, where ideas are born and new days begin. I call upon the forces of the air to lift our spirits and breathe life into our dreams, grant us knowledge and vitality, gift us with clarity, vision and swift thought.  Be with us here forces of air.  Enter and be blessed!

SOUTH:   Energies of the South, where passion and truth are found, and fulfillment is ours.  I call upon the forces of fire to energize our dreams and breathe passion and inspiration into our lives.  Give us strength, energy and love.  Be with us here forces of flame.  Enter and be blessed!

WEST:      Energies of the West, where daylight ends and our fears are healed.  I call upon the forces of water to grant us intuition and wisdom, and breathe purity and empathy into our studies.  Be with us here forces of water.  Enter and be blessed!

Unite Energies
(A Good Solid OHM - Visualize the energy whirling around the circle. Visualize whirled peas - and going down into a cone into the earth for grounding.)

Invocation God & Goddess

HP:  Goddess of movement and creativity we invite you into our circle tonight as we celebrate our spirituality. We ask for your inspiration as we create our spiritual paths and your passionate fire to move us forward in that creation with light and love. Guide our hearts and open our minds. Blessed be.

HPS:         God of lessons learned we invite you into our circle tonight as we celebrate our spirituality.  We ask for your wisdom as we create our spiritual paths and your guidance to move us forward in that creation with love and light.  Help us choose the lessons for our highest good.  Blessed be.

Name The Working

Our ritual tonight is, for some, an exciting new adventure. For others it’s a time of reflection and renewal of their spiritual path. For each of us, the God and Goddess have a special message, a truth that will bring a new spark of awareness and meaning to our individual paths. We have learned a lot this past year about community and the power of laughter. And we would like to share a remembrance that the God and Goddess have great senses of humor, are always there to guide us and are the first to forgive when the intent is true. Tonight, we will raise energy for everyone's spiritual path. Be it a beginning, a renewal or a celebration, we invite all to share in our very special circle of graduation.

Perform The Work

We would like everyone in circle to visualize where they want to be on your spiritual path six months from now. When I tell you to begin - visualize your path while blowing up your balloon, placing your intent inside. See your vision expand just as the balloon does with all the great possibilities that lie ahead. When you've finished blowing up your balloon, hold the end closed but do not tie it.  Hold your balloon up so we can see when everyone is done.  Now you may begin.

Raise Energy

HPS:         Ok, everyone is done, now we're going to release the air from our balloons with as much noise as possible.  Visualize your intentions and stored up energy being released as loudly and with as much imagination and fun as you can muster.
(HP/HPS gather energy at altar and prepare to release it like a large balloon.  Once the energy has peaked and the room is quiet face each other at the altar and raise arms together to signal the release of the energy)

Great Rite

HPS:          I hold the chalice representing the feminine energies, the gentle, nurturing, and compassionate aspects of the Goddess.  She is the bearer of life in all forms, both plant and animal. As life and death are a never-ending cycle, so are the cycles of the earth.

HP:  I hold the Athame, representing the masculine energies, the strong, powerful and protecting aspects of the God.  He is the sun, shining down and giving strength to all that grows. As all life becomes weak and dies, only to be reborn once again to continue the cycle.

BOTH:      We now come together to complete the union of both Feminine and Masculine energies - a union of balance and wholeness, a union in which one will complement the other.

HPS:          As I represent the mother
HP:   As I represent the father
BOTH:   Joining together, we create the balance that will sustain the cycles of all life.

Cakes And Ale
