Lammas – 8/4/24
Circle Dragonfly
HP/HPS Introductions
Tonight, we celebrate Lammas, the first harvest of
the year. We celebrate the rewards from seeds sown throughout the year; both
those seeds sown out in the fields, and the seeds we sow in our own lives.
Welcome and Blessed Be!

HP/HPS Cast Circle
Starting in the North, outline
the perimeter of the Circle with cornmeal.
With our Ancestors gathered love and wisdom; and
through our own voices we call in this circle.
With the Earths gathered bounty, sun-ripened and
rich, and through our own voices, we call in this circle.
In love, safety, growth, and beauty and through
our own voices, we call in this circle. Blessed Be
Calling of the Quarters
We call upon the Spirits of the North, of the
Earth from which the plants that feed us grow. Hail and welcome!
(Pass the wand to the East)
EAST: (Hold
the wand to the sky and say…)
We call upon the Spirits of the Air and the Wind
that dances across the fields. Hail and welcome!
(Pass the wand to the South)
SOUTH: (Hold
the wand to the sky and say…)
We call upon the Spirits of the South, of the Fire
and Sun that gives the plants life. Hail and welcome!
(Pass the wand to the West)
WEST: (Hold
the wand to the sky and say…)
We call upon the Spirits of the West, of the Water
and Rain that nourishes the plants. Hail and welcome!
(Return the wand to the North)
HP/HPS Invoking the
God/Goddess
O Great God of the ripening fields, you who are
known as Lugh. Grant us the understanding of sacrifice as you prepare to
deliver yourself to the lands of Eternal Summer. Welcome to our circle!
O Great Goddess of the Corn and Grain, you who are
known as Demeter Teach us the secrets of rebirth as the sun wanes in its
strength once again and the nights begin to grow cold. Welcome to our circle!
With the afterglow of late summer purring in our
bodies and in the land, the days are lulled and languorous. The communities of
trees are hanging heavy canopies as their life force is directed into the
berries, fruits, nuts and seeds. The soft hum of the nectar gatherers, the wasps
and bees, butterflies and beetles fill the air with their lovely symphony. The moon is low and orange over the fields,
the first fruits of our labors ripe enough to be eased from the branch, or
gathered from the fields and baked into a harvest loaf.
A change in the evening air signals that the idyllic
summer days are ending. It heightens our awareness that only a small percentage
of the world have cornucopias of surplus. Summoning the medicine of dragonfly who can jump
tracks, adapt with lightening ease, fly backwards and forwards into the past
and future we initiate deep wisdom circles to welcome indigenous wisdom already
known. Doughnut and gift economies to close the global poverty gap and share
this Love-fest from the earth, who could feed us all, mouth on mouth.
HP/HPS Workings
Tonight, we’ll be creating corn dollies and asking
them to absorb any bad luck that comes over the next 12 months. If you have one
already from last year now is the time to give it a drink of whiskey or brandy
in thanks before placing it in the fire to get rid of the bad luck that it has
gained. Hold the new one in the smoke of the old one to let it absorb only the
best of the essence of its predecessor.
Wish box
Consider your hopes and wishes for the future and
ponder the plans that you’re making. Are there any sacrifices you should be
making in the present that will bring benefit in the future? Write it down and
put in the wish box
HP/HPS Cakes and Ale
(Raise the fruit and say…)
Blessed be the harvest, fruit of the womb of the
Goddess. Blessed be Mother Earth. Today we honor the deities in their aspects
as the Grain God and the Corn Mother.
So, Mote it Be
(Raise the Grain and say…)
Blessed be the harvest, grains of the earth.
Blessed be the God of the woods and land.
Today we honor the deities in their aspects as the Grain God and the
Corn Mother.
So, Mote it Be
Libations
Tonight, we enjoy the bounty of the First Harvest,
mixing its energies with ours, that we may continue on our journeys of life.
Many blessings we have been given. We count them now by this bread and wine,
fruits of the Earth and Sun.
(Place some bread and wine
into the libation bowl.
Cup your hands around the
bowl and say…)
I consecrate this offering back to the Blessed
Mother Nature from whom it came, to her consort, the Great Horned God of
Nature, Her animals and Her fairy beings. Offerings given in love return three
times over. Blessed Be this gathering, the giver and the gift. So, Mote it be.
